Hong Kong, January 11, 2005 - To launch its China UnionPay (CUP) card acceptance service in Thailand, Oriental City Group Thailand (OCGT) signed a tri-party agreement with China UnionPay, the high profile card brand endorsed by the People's Bank of China, and Bangkok Bank, the most established commercial bank in Thailand. OCGT was established by the Oriental City Group (OCG) in Thailand. Based on the tri-party agreement, OCGT takes the lead to run the operation centre in Bangkok. In order to provide the best real-time service to the Thai merchants, OCGT developed locally a state-of-the-art processing system customized to CUP card transaction environment in Thailand.

The successful launch of CUP card acceptance service in Hong Kong at the beginning of 2004 visualized that the demand of CUP card acceptance service outside mainland is significant. In the third quarter of 2004, the transaction volume growth is up 72.7% comparing with the second quarter. CUP decides to go one key step further to expand CUP card acceptance service the first time ever outside China.

Among many overseas countries, Thailand is selected as one of the first to provide CUP card acceptance service. Thailand is one of the most popular overseas destinations for Chinese tourists. Because of its close proximity to China and its various attractions, the growth outlook of the Chinese outbound tourist business will continue to be very promising. According to a research, the projected annual growth of Chinese tourist expense in Thailand will be up to 21% in the coming years.
